About Visibility is Not Neutral
Welcome. I’m Tristan Katz (they/he), and this is a space for reframing how we show up to grow our work and speak into the world.
Visibility is Not Neutral explores the intersection of marketing, identity, and justice. It’s a newsletter for those of us who understand that we cannot separate the personal from the political—or the professional. Here, I write about how we communicate our work, how we hold and use power, and how we can shift our business practices away from extraction and toward relationship, solidarity, and care.
Whether you’re a creative, a coach, a professional or community leader, or an entrepreneur trying to do better in how you show up—this space is for you, especially if you’ve ever felt like traditional marketing was at odds with your values.
Topics I write about include:
Conscious and solidarity-oriented marketing
Trans and queer rights and liberation
Allyship, accountability, and social location
Trauma-informed communications and power dynamics
Dismantling “business as usual” in favor of something more liberatory
As a white, queer, transgender person working at the nexus of digital strategy, cultural criticism, and equity education, I bring both lived experience and fifteen+ years of professional insight to this work. My approach is grounded in a lifetime dedicated to studying human rights and social movements, systemic oppression, inequity, and social change.
